ヨウ素 Iodine

The name, iodine, is derived from the Greek iodes, meaning violet.  Iodine is a black shiny non-metallic solid and a member of group 17, also known as the halogen group, of the periodic table of elements.  It sublimes easily on heating to give a purple vapor.
